Romance Bassoon Violin Cello
« on: December 15, 2019, 09:22:11 AM »
Here's another of my miniatures.  First draft .....  :o

It will need further work and/or add movements.  ???

Feedback appreciated.  :)  Many rough spots still to smooth out.  :-\

a quick note: the violin doublestop in measure 2 is unplayable.

Yes..... it needs to be corrected.

Thanks

I am going to re-post the piece soon.

PS: Okay .... here's the updated version ..... fixed double stops (??)  a few tweaks and additions.  Not yet finished though

This is an interesting starting point.  I think it deserves to be longer - either extending it or (as you alluded to) adding movements.

Maybe I'm too much stuck in my little rectangular box, but I would have liked have heard mm 9-12 again - either a direct repeat or modified - before moving on.

Thanks for the review.  ;D

This is an initial ..... throwing the colors on the canvass.

The various motif(s) definitely deserve to be developed further.

A contrasting .... more lively 2nd section would be nice too.

Mark,

I always enjoy your melodic invention, wit, and quirky time offsets.

This feels like a song with just one chorus.

I agree with patrick: I'd like to hear more. Maybe a contrasting interlude, and then going back to the chorus.

I think a good model for your miniatures might be Debussy’s preludes, each telling a brief story or painting a picture.

Cheers,
Jer

Jer,

Thanks for the review..... I am already incorporating suggestions and I began a new section.

Will post at a later date.

Okay for those who take an interest in how the piece is developing ... here's a more comprehensive update.

There are some improvement in the initial section and a new mid-section.

Much more to do ... however, it's moving a long.  My muse must be near by.

Don't be shy ... all comments/suggestions/advice .... and gossip welcome.

For those interested here's an update.

Mid-section draft completed.

Some small tweaks to the opening section.

Do I make this an ABA format or do I add another section?

Mark,

I like the changes. It feels more substantial. There is a lot of lovely stuff in it.

As to your question, ABA seems right. But ABCBA might be interesting. Or even ABACABA. Makes a nice title, “Abacaba.”

Some of the pizzicato in the strings gets overpowered by the bassoon.

Some of the counterpoint feels a little picky and doesn't punch through.

Cheers,
Jer

Jer can you be more specific about the counterpoint "not punching through"?
