Hi everyone .... thanks for all your good wishes for the concert.

I am very happy to report ... the concert was a great success.

We also had an overflow crowd.  The concert was broadcast throughout the campus including the large meadows.

When the videos are available ... I'll post the link to them.

Mark

PS: A bit of drama.  The 1st Oboist Ab cork pad was loose and had to be re-seated.  She had to dis-assemble her Oboe and repair it minutes before the concert ... luckily the Unitarian Universalist Church had some contact gooey rubber cement on premises.  Luckily the English Horn player had her Oboe with her ... just in case.

Live concert!!!!!!

glad it went well.
it's nice to have a serious challenge like this concert program for the musicians.
I can hardly wait to hear it.

Okay ... the conductor posted "La Mer".  I am waiting permission to post the other segments of the program.  The mezzo-soprano is out of this world!

https://www.facebook.com/watch/?v=518589055613912

This is a summer community orchestra ... with some professionals sitting in.  Many first seats are community members: Piccolo, Flute, Clarinet, Oboe.  Many second seats are also community players.  The first violin  and second are not as are the first trumpeters, percussion and harps.  Bass section 3 community players....etc.  Most of the strings community players as some of the brass.

I hope you enjoy our effort hear .... perfect no (horns) ..... but not too shabby either!

parts of this are AMAZING!
for a community orchestra the sound is surprisingly rich.
and yes... those horns /cringe

I'm only partway through the recording, but will be listening to it all in my spare time.

considering there are about 1/3 to 1/4 of the required strings, this is quite a tour-de-force.

Mark,

Extraordinary for a community orchestra! You have some really talented musicians.

The ocean was a good idea as a unifying theme. Any particular reason for it?

Cheers,
Jer

Wonderful Mark! Very nice to have members here taking part in the making of such music. I'll listen to all in the earliest convenience. Just hopped from place to place yet, like opening gift wrappers.

Thanks for posting and a big congratulations!

...yes the mezzo sounds terrific!

Thank you all!!!!  ;D

I am especially pleased with the blending of tone/expression within the Oboe section .... third movement La Mer.

The first Oboist ... is my colleague we play in 2 community orchestras together.  Where we play musical chairs between 1st and 2nd oboes seats.  She is a much experienced player than I.  The English Horn is Keve Wilson a fantastic Jazz Oboist etc.............a professional.  It was exciting and a honor playing with her.

4 rehearsals .... I still can't believe it.

The idea of the sea being a unifying program concept is the Conductor's idea.

Knowing him - He most probably had the mezzo-soprano in mind.  He enjoys given people a showcase.
