Notating Spoken Words in choral pieces
« on: April 05, 2019, 07:28:55 AM »
If I write for SATB and want to have one of the singers say a line of words instead of sing it, how would I notate that? Also, how would I notate this but also have them say it in time with tempo and meter?

I'd put the instruction "Spoken" in the score and, if I really wanted it to be spoken in rhythm, then I'd notate it with notes with x noteheads. Otherwise, I would just fit the text below blank measures where I wanted it to go.
