Tchaikovsky 5 is one of the very first orchestral scores I purchased and studied on my own when I was about 15. I absolutely adore it from beginning to end!

Wonderful, Mark. How I envy you orchestral players.

I know you've told us before, but please tell who you played it with.

Cheers,
Jer

Jerry,

I played this concert with the Island Symphony Orchestra.

It is a community orchestral located on Long Island New York.

The orchestra just hired a new young and dynamic Music Director.

We performed at the Patchogue Theater ... a beautifully renovated grand old theater which seats 1000 people.

Mark,

Thank you. I'll have to look them up. I assume they have something online.

I grew up on Long Island, on the Queens-Nassau border.

Cheers,
Jer

Does the Long Island Symphony still exist?
I believe that my conducting mentor was musical director of the LIS for a number of years.

The long Island Symphony (which in its later incarnation was mostly a "pick-up" orchestra) unfortunately no longer exists.

There are a least 12 community orchestras now resident on Long Island ... 6  - I know of in Nassau County and 4 in Suffolk County.  The are numerous bands, wind ensembles etc.

A few of the orchestras perform at a high level, most are intermediate in skill level.

I play in 2 orchestras a Pop's Orchestra and a Classical Repertoire Orchestra as well as sub in many others when needed.

Mark

PS: I also occasionally play in a summer Opera gig.
