...and another new section

I am very pleased to have created a new section specifically for concert band and wind ensembles, moderated by the very experienced Art Michaels ("gogreen"). I wish him all the best in this new endeavor.
Rules? What rules?

maybe it will be less frightening to write for concert band now.

I agree. I would like to compose some pieces for Symphonic Band but after attempting research on the interwebs I'm still unsure about it and its been more decades than I like to think about since I performed in such ensembles.

I encourage you guys to do it! You could start with something akin to the attached. For a small band or wind ensemble with more advanced players, I would expand the attached template by separating the flute/oboe staff, expanding the clarinet staff to include clarinets 1 and 2, and writing separate trombone, baritone, and bassoon staffs. For percussion, you might keep it simple with staffs for snare drum/bass drum and cymbals (suspended cymbal/crash cymbals). By the way, the attached is Finale's beginning band template.
