February
« on: February 06, 2017, 08:46:22 PM »
I started this a few days ago. I am having fun exploring effects I can create using Finale SW.  I am running GPO as well but one  disappointment I have with it, is that Many of the GPO samples are not effected by the dynamic settings in Finale. I probably should   address this to either Make Music or Garritan, or maybe I'm just missing something. Anyway, don't know how far I'll take this,
Cheers,AO.

That was a nice demo of Finale +GPO  sound effects - thanks for posting it.

I just figured out how to use this BOX app I see others using on our forum, so I swapped the downloaded file with that.  I have come to terms with my mediocrity long ago and feel guilty using up precious space here, so this might be the answer.

This is a fascinating work. I fail to see anything "mediocre" about it. I would like to see a score though, as it is hard to make meaningful comments based solely on an audio recording. As for dynamics with Garritan, if you can post a .musx file I might be able to help.

Interesting work, but how about a score?

Thanks everyone,  I just started this couple of weeks ago so the score is quite a mess right now.  I have no instructions as far as pizz. arco, col legno etc.  the dynamics are all for playback, no divisi markings, the percussion is a disaster but here it is for anyone interested checking it out in this state.
I will try to clean this score up eventually.

I did post a piece in my Baltic Suite  called Juras Mala in which I worked pretty hard on cleaning up  the score, I wouldnít mind some feedback from the experts as far as how the score is laid out.

Here is the XML for you Ron, I assume you have the GPO and JABB, most of the special bowing techniques are not effected by Finaleís dynamic markings as well as the muted horns and other sounds using JAAB. Hopefully itís something Iím missing otherwise purchasing GPO and JABB was a waste of money. Iím using the latest Sierra OS if that makes any difference. Thanks for any help you can give me.

The trouble with a .xml file is that I have to import it which automatically changes any settings you might have in your Finale file--which is what I wanted to see. In any case, I had to reassign the instruments and, by default in my setup, GPO4. (I do have JaBB--and all the other main Garritan libraries included GPO5, but GPO4 is my default so it was loaded first.) Dynamics played back as they should. I really wanted to see you HP settings--which, if course, were replaced by mine when converted from xml.

I don't know what you mean by "special bowing techniques are not affected by Finaleís dynamic markings" as dynamics has no relation to bowing techniques.

If I use, col legno for example from the GPO sound files, and assign it to the second layer of violin 1,  dynamics don't work. Also other effects such as tremolo, pizzicato and stuff like that. It's encouraging that that your getting it to work though. I am leaving the MUSX file for you, Ill have check back later as I will be away for awhile, thanks for your held Ron.

Thanks for the .musx file--it makes life easier for me. I can't find anywhere where you used col legno or pizzicato in this score. You have put sections of the score in layer 2, and sometimes layer 3, for no apparent reason that I can see. In any case, all dynamics work for me.

Hi Ron ,
if I could  trouble you a bit more about this issue. Like I said the score is mess right now so I sent a small sample of what I'm talking about. When I play back these samples, there is no dynamic change, these are all from the GPO5 library.
Thanks for your patience.

This is what I hear--with no deliberate alterations to your file. BTW, I do not understand why you keep switching layers. What is that supposed to do?

Wow thats too bad for me, I hear no volume change in any of these sounds at all, maybe I should try reinstalling or something. As far as the layers go, how would you go about changing the sound of one instrument for playback, if you went from arco to pizz. for example. I can see that it would be a simple instruction on the score itself and I have a feeling that you might be very good at looking at a score and hearing it but I am very limited as far as that goes, I definitely need the playback. Anyway thanks for your help, I guess I'll have figure out what the heck is going on with my set up. Cheers.
