Title: Sunday's Pops Concert
Post by: mjf1947 on May 20, 2019, 12:46:40 PM
Hi all,

Here's a snippet of my Sunday Pop's Concert.  The orchestra consists of amateurs, retired teachers, etc .... with various level of skill.

This arrangement was done by our 1st trombonist.

not bad at all!
it's a shame the recording isn't better.
as usual, the horns have trouble.. it's such a fickle instrument. it so easily turns on you and betrays hours of work.

That was a good arrangement of Begin the Beguine.  Indeed the recording was not that great - I wonder how it could be improved?

Yes ... the arranger is very good.  He has graciously done many arrangements for the orchestra.

I shared some of my work with him.  As I said is an excellent arranger (for band too), however;

he shared he doesn't have an original musical thought!

The video .... is from a camcorder about 50 feet away.

Thanks for the nice video Mark! Also, for sharing the interesting discussion with the arranger. I'm gradually coming to understand arranging and orchestrating is a vast world in itself and a viable business for the talented few.
