Quintet Plus

Here's a new work ... originally written for woodwind quartet and bass.

Now a woodwind quintet with strings.

Comments always welcome.

Mark,

I liked the exciting and "catchy" rhythmic melody starting at mm. 5 in the clarinets and violas.
I especially noted the nuance found in mm. 21-25. The harmonic changes were reminiscent of Ravel and produced a very unique color.
However, I think there could be more dynamic balance between the strings and woodwinds. I found the basses too overwhelming in mm. 18-20.

Nice short piece!

Luke,

It's the mix that has created an imbalance among the instruments.

The mixer had the bass etc with too much volume.

Thanks for the review!  ;D

Mark,

I like it a lot.

Like many short pieces, I wish for more.

The piece gets complicated very quickly, so I wonder how it would be beginning with a simpler statement and then growing into more complexity.

Cheers,
Jer

Good suggestion!

Thanks for the review.  8)

I attached an updated mp3 with a better balance and a few note tweaks and minor arrangement changes.

This is a nice start for what could become a chamber symphony. Good handling of the varying colors.

Notation question: Isn't it standard practice to put a double barline when there is a key change as at bars 18-19? Also, There really should be a courtesy key indication at the page break between bars 18 and 19.
