This was one of the first times I've ever written for an ensemble, as I mostly compose for solo piano. It was for a contest, but I originally started the bulk of it as a leisurely thing, hence the "lighthearted piece." My style is really much like this, anyway. It's like pseudo-modern Japanese music in classical form. It is sort of similar to sonata form being in an ABAcoda shape.

I'm eager to take any pointers at all on the orchestration/playability part of it, as I don't know the exact difficulty of certain double stops, jumps, runs, arpeggios, etc.

It's very inventive and a lot of fun.
 
For playback, I think the piano is too prominent. For much of it I couldn't clearly hear the strings and their interactions with each other. I'd like to hear it with the piano accompaniment mostly just in the background.

Excellent!

To me it sounds like it could be a piece from one of the Les Six in terms of feel and effect, although harmonically its a little too common practice.

I certainly enjoyed listening to your lively, jazzy piece.  The harmonies and melodies flow nicely. You might want to post a PDF of the score so people here can take a closer look at it.

I agree with Jay. The music is a little small and thus hard to read in the video (especially for those of with vision issues).

Alright, then I'll re-record and lower the volume on the piano.

At the end there is a tiny tremolo part in the two 6/8 measures followed by a 2/8 measure where the violin and cello have tremolo markings, and the end contains fortissimo pizzicato chords, both of which were inspired by the finale of Ravel's String Quartet in F. There is also a high Bb chord in the piano part towards the end following two grace notes, which was a reference to the last chord in his Alborada del Gracioso.

Well I'm glad I didn't miss this little gem.

It's a bit"french" "jazzy" however, overall eclectic in sound.

I personally love Jazz Violin .......

very attractive piece.
as others have said it has a "french" touch to it, but I don't hear anything that makes it remotely "pastiche". maybe that's due to the heavier use of jazz-influenced harmony. it has a unique sound all its own.

Very true statement; this piece was influenced more by some Japanese music and classical jazz than anything, though sometimes Debussy or Ravel make their way onto the page.

Being a pianist I naturally want to assign runs and arpeggios to the strings, which I know they hate. Maybe I'll be nicer next time.

Agreed; the audio balance brought out lines I didn't hear myself while composing this!  :D

Sorry I have been somewhat distracted by other things lately and just discovered this. As others have said, it is a delightful work. I thoroughly enjoyed it. As a former violinist, however, I cannot help but point out the difficult parallel perfect 5th in m. 59. One perfect 5th is bad enough--violinists HATE them, but two in a row is doubly asking for trouble. I also would ignore many of your bowing directions. They are distracting. Where you do want two notes in a single bow, yet separate, I'd use a slur with staccato marks. Just picky-nicky stuff, I know.
