Retired Jazz Pianist
« on: August 30, 2017, 03:33:40 PM »
I discovered this forum while looking for answers to some notation problems. I found seriousness, creativity, and excellent digital orchestration.

I was a New Yorker, now retired with my artist wife Ann Decker and living in Mexico. My careers included graphic design, founding and running a theatre company, and playing piano in my own jazz group.

I've written jazz tunes and music for the theatre. I was active at the All About Jazz forum until its recent demise and currently contribute to the iReal Pro forum. I still play piano at local music festivals and restaurants.

I've been a Finale user since it it first came out, on a Mac, but only sporadically used it for orchestrating. I've begun working more at composing serious music and want to increase my ability at scoring it.

Retirement is fun!

Cheers,
Jer

Welcome Jerry!

I agree that retirement is fun (sometimes). I can't figure out where I ever found time for working for a living.

Good to have you here and I look forward to seeing some of your works and for your critical comments on the works submitted by members.

Welcome. I look forward to seeing/hearing your classical compositions.

Welcome! Composing will likely be a key activity when I retire. Got to do something to keep me off the streets!

Welcome to the forum. Looking forward to hearing some of your work.

Jamie
The perceived object...is not a sum of elements to be distinguished from each other and analyzed discretely, but a pattern, that is to say a form, a structure: the element's existence does not precede the existence of the whole, it comes neither before nor after it, for the parts do not determine the pattern, but the pattern determines the parts: knowledge of the pattern and of its laws, of the set and its structure, could not possibly be derived from discrete knowledge of the elements that compose it.

That means that you can look at a piece of a puzzle for three whole days, you can believe that you know all there is to know about its colouring and its shape, and be no further ahead than when you started. The only thing that counts is the ability to link this piece to other pieces...
