Scoring for Drums

I was wondering if any had any advice on how to score for a drum set or knows a source I can research to get a better understanding of the subject. I often get caught in using too many drums or using different drums or cymbals at the wrong times in a piece. I want to better understand how they work for different styles of music and how to notate that.

Books on orchestration often have a chapter on percussion. I would use Kennan &  Gratham's "The Technique of Orchestration" for the basics and Gould's "Behind Bars" for notation questions. Otherwise, if you could post a sample of what you are working on, then we could give specific advice.

Sometimes a search directly on Scribd doesn't yield a result. But if you do a Google search and add the word "Scribd" it often comes up.
 
Another way to get free documents on Scribd is to upload something, like a piece of your own music or other kind of document. You then get credit to download something.
